 The Philadelphia Tribune, an award-winning African-American newspaper, is currently seeking   general assignment reporter(s) to write news stories or features as assigned by the editor which may include arts, entertainment, culture, health, politics, etc.

 

The successful candidate must possess the following:

  • An intimate knowledge of the Associated Press Stylebook and demonstrable experience writing in AP Style.
  • Ability to write clean copy under deadline pressure
  • Prior experience writing for a newspaper or website on a broad range of topics including local events, governmental meetings, lifestyle, and breaking news
  • A degree in Journalism or related field preferred
  • A valid driver’s license, lives in the Philadelphia area, and reliable transportation to travel to assignments preferred

News and Special Projects Editor

The Philadelphia Tribune, an award-winning African-American newspaper, is currently seeking an experienced energetic, creative, and hands-on News and Special Projects Editor to join our editorial management staff. This key position is a great opportunity for an experienced reporter and or copy editor. The successful candidate will be involved in supervising the copy desk and the production of four weekly community based Metro editions and various special supplements

Proven skills in editing, design, headline writing and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment. Must be a self-starter with experienced in community based journalism news writing, page design, and the ability to meet tight deadlines.

  • Meet targeted revenue goals

  • Analyze the market to identify potential prospects

 Requirements:

  • Experience in print, broadcast and digital sales preferred
  • Must have demonstrated success in previous sales positions

Investigative Reporter

The Philadelphia Tribune is seeking an Investigative Reporter. The Investigative Reporter is responsible for developing, researching, reporting and producing high-impact investigative stories for print and digital.

Applicants should have the ability to do the following:

  • Generate, research and report short, mid and long form stories through investigation and research
  • Use sources, documents, computer-assisted reporting, and other journalistic tools to develop, report, write and produce exclusive accountability stories and investigative projects
  • Analyze and report documents, such as lawsuits and other legal documents, tax records, government reports, regulatory reports, and corporate financial filings.
  • Analyze and report using Databases of public records.
  • Conduct numerous interviews with on-the-record sources as well as, in some instances, interviews with anonymous sources (for example whistleblowers)
  • Use federal or state Freedom of Information Acts to obtain documents and data from government agencies.

 All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

 Bachelor’s degree in journalism

  • A minimum of three years of experience working for professional media.
  • Previous experience doing investigative reporting.

Proven management experience in newspaper circulation distribution is desired. The successful candidate must have a general knowledge of the Philadelphia region, a reliable vehicle, registration and automobile insurance. In addition, the ideal candidate must be customer service focused, team oriented, and self-motivated.
