Out & About: Philadelphia Kappa Silhouettes host 69th Annual Luncheon

The Philadelphia Kappa Silhouettes, distinguished as the oldest Kappa Silhouette chapter in the nation, hosted another successful luncheon and fashion show Saturday, March 9.

The Philadelphia chapter was founded Oct. 3, 1923, and members are the wives and widows of the men of the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

Nearly 400 guests were “Out & About” for the Philadelphia Kappa Silhouettes 69th Annual Luncheon and Fashion Show, held at Presidential Caterers in East Norriton, Pa. The latest fashion trends for beautiful women and handsome men provided by El Pea’y owner of ‘Just For You Boutique’ were a huge hit.

The engaging models lit up the runway with a range of laid back casual to elegant evening attire and fabulous furs. The always entertaining commentator was Nathan Townsend. The event also featured great vendors, door prizes, and raffles.

Sharritha Thigpen-Prater, president of Philadelphia Kappa Silhouettes said, “The Philadelphia Kappa Silhouettes are an auxiliary of the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. Our organization is comprised of the wives and widows of men of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Inc. We greatly appreciate everyone who came out to support our 69th Annual Luncheon and Fashion Show! Without you, it would not have been successful. Your support of our annual fundraiser will help us to make a great impact in our community. We look forward to seeing you again next year. The Philadelphia Kappa Silhouettes are also the proud host chapter of the 48th National Silhouettes Conference. It will be held during the 84th Grand Chapter Meeting of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. this summer in the city of Philadelphia, July 30-Aug. 5, 2019.”

Other officers of the chapter are: Darlene Sandlin, Lena Adams, Kathryn Bazemore, Anita Green, Linnea Griffith, Deborah P. Williams, Michelle J. P. Mack, Eunice L. Patterson, Karen P. Dean, Marie H. Simpkins, Kathleen Lee, Delores Andrews, Kathleen Lee and Elizabeth R. Rivers.

A moment of silence was observed in honor the oldest Silhouette in the nation, Bergner Searles, who passed away at the age of 101 years old on Jan. 18, 2019. Silhoulette Searles was a beautiful, active member who would have attended her 69th fashion show and luncheon. Her family and friends proudly represented her memory and dedication to the organization. A lovely floral bouquet was presented to her daughter Judith Jackson.

This exciting event is the Philadelphia Kappa Silhouettes largest fundraiser of the year. The fundraiser helps the chapter support many charitable events and organizations. In the past, the annual event has helped raise funds to support organizations such as Autism Speaks, the Sickle Cell, Lupus, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundations, to name a few.

The event also provides stipends for college-bound high school students, while supporting national initiatives of the National Silhouettes of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

Silhouettes Delores Andrews, Vivistine Baylor, Katherine Bazemore, Kristine Chew, Ruth Gaskins, Beatrice Goodwin, Anita Green, Gwynne Hoye, Tanya Johnson, Patricia Kendall, Denise Myers, Elizabeth Rivers, Marie and Patricia Williams did a wonderful job.
